Key West Florida - Travel Journal - January 20, 2007

We got up early this morning and took a long walk and took some photographs of the highlights of Key West. It is very quiet around town until about 10:00am. We purchased some drinks and went down by the water and watched the cruise ships come in. Afterwards we leisurely strolled down Duval Street and did a little shopping. Shopping on Duval can be an exciting experience. Since we live at the shore, we always find something unique in one of the many shops. Early afternoon we head for the pool and relax for an early evening of fun and excitement.

We have a busy evening planned with our friends. One of our best friends is celebrating her 40th birthday and thirty-three of us are entering a scavenger hunt of the bars. This organized game was found by one of our friends on the Internet at www.keywesthunt.com. We met at the bar on the roof of La Concha hotel, and from there we were given clues to several bars around the Duval/Warf area. We had teams of four or five and once we were sent on our way, we had to answer the clues as to what bar we had to go to, and then once we were there, we had to answer a question asked about something in the bar. We had a three-hour time limit, which gave ample time for everyone.

Other highlights of the scavenger hunt was that there was a pink flamingo named “Pinky” at one of the locations and if we found “Pinky” we would receive an extra 50 points, but you had to guard it because others would be trying to take it from you. Stickers from other tours were worth points, so we were all scraping them off sidewalks, trash cans, and whatever we could find them on.

Each team also had to come up with a clever name that was worth up to 100 points and if someone from each team showed up with a real or “fake” tattoo with the Birthday girls name and 40 on it, they also would get bonus points.

After all was said and done, everyone in our group had a blast with the scavenger hunt. It took us top places we had never been and we all laughed and enjoyed ourselves tremendously.

After the scavenger hunt, we all ate and most headed to Sloppy Joe’s to listen to the band and dance. This evening was one we will never forget.
