Things You Should Buy in Acapulco

Most tourists who cherish their visit to every new place they go to would always bring home a souvenir item to remind them of that special experience in their lives. Searching for souvenirs in Acapulco is not that hard because the city is home to plenty of shops and boutiques numbering more than 600. There are stores that sell international brand names of clothing, shoes, accessories and jewelry. There are also shops around town that market beach clothing and accessories as well as handicrafts which are said to be cheaper than the prices of other resorts in Mexico. You should not worry about not being able to find the souvenir item you want because there are modern air-conditioned malls and smaller shopping centers plus numerous open-air markets to choose from.

Exquisite silver pieces of various shapes and sizes are also readily available in Acapulco because of its proximity to Taxco. The Mercado Parazal offers the best selection of silver and pottery with intricate designs. Other souvenirs to be had in this wonderful and lively city include ceramics, beautiful paintings by local artists and of course, the native Mexican products like the hand-woven cotton or serapes and hand-made leather items.

Once you have decided about the item you would like to purchase in the open-air markets, don’t readily say that you’re going to buy the product right away at the price given to you by the vendor. The prices normally include sales tax. Bargaining or haggling is acceptable especially when there is no price tag and even when buying jewelry. Experienced travelers to Acapulco suggest that for handicrafts, start bidding at half the asking price and settle somewhere in between. A good place to do the bargain-shopping and haggling is at the open-air artisan’s mall opposite the Plaza Bahia.

The Plaza Bahia houses several shops that sell clothes, shoes and Mexican souvenirs while the handicrafts market situated in the downtown area offers great deals on crafts and clothes.
For the fashion conscious tourists, the Costera Miguel Aleman Boulevard is the place to go to. This area has the best fashion shops for clothes and beachwear. Boutiques selling products of international brand names and local designers are here along this avenue just fronting the beach.

Visit Fermin’s shop for worry-free souvenir shopping in Acapulco. If you would like to take home that traditional and quality Mexican sombrero (native hat) of all sizes and colors, you can get it there at half the price of those offered by other vendors. This shop also sells a great selection of Mexican blankets, ponchos, t-shirts, jewelry, souvenirs and gift items. When you go there, you can ask for Fermin himself, the owner of the shop.

For the art lovers and collectors, be sure to visit Edith Matison’s Art Gallery along the Costera. This is a chic gallery that displays the art works of artists who are known around the world as well as Mexico’s finest artists. Art pieces by Calder, Squeiros, Tamayo and Dali are showcased in this place. Quality Mexican handicrafts are likewise available here. So if you are searching for good souvenirs, this is the place to go to. The gallery is open to visitors from Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

And for those who fancy jewelry, the B&B Jewelers inside Park Papagayo is highly recommended. The shop, which shows customers how they make jewelry, sells gold, silver, Mexican fire opals and other precious stones.
